Where to find Free Joomla templates

joomla 3 settings

A Joomla website's appearance is built with templates, which can be easily changed.

But building your own Joomla template is not that easy, especially if you want a Table-less design with CSS as the way to position your content.

If you are looking for free Joomla Templates, then these links below are some of the best places to start your search:

http://www.joomlaos.de (German)

http://www.joomla24.com (English language site of Joomlaos.de)

I will be writing more on templates in the next weeks.

Below is one of the websites that offer premium Joomla Templates, extensions and Tutorials.

A Joomla Frontpage changing Module

Filed Under: Joomla Optimization, Joomla Seo, Search Engines

I found a module today bij http://www.joomlaworks.gr/ called “Ultimate Content Display” which is working great.

What is does? It can display content from sections or categories in a simple to place module position.
But the best part is, it can change the articles it shows by setting some parameters!

So why is this so exciting? Because you can now have “fresh” content on for example your Frontpage simple by adding this module.
Think about it… you can show returning visitors articles they otherwise may have never seen.
But also you have fresh content on you homepage every time the Googlebot, Yahoo or Live robots visits…

You can have the content in a list form, or a slide / fader with time settings and many options more.
I will write an extended how-to use and copy the module on www.pathos-seo.com later next week.

You can see the module in action on the Frontpage (on the bottom of the page)  of www.pathos-seo.com where it says Random content.

The Module you can download from www.joomlaworks.gr

Joomla Modules an Introduction

An introduction to Joomla Modules

Most people who start out with Joomla have a hard time figuring out what all this Joomla stuff is.

So I will try to explain some of it as easy as possible, this time.. Joomla Modules.

The Building Blocs of Joomla Output

You might have read about the Components or the Mambots, but what can you do with modules.

First off, Modules are the things that display all of your content on your website, that is ranging from the main content to the menu's and more…

Modules are the parts of Joomla that makes it possible to place the content in your template on the position that is configured in your template.

Now look at this a bit closer, because its easier to understand it form a picture…

Joomla Module positions in a Template

Here you can see what module positions are defined in the Template I use.

In this case I ma just showing you the top positions I used.

Find Joomla Module Position in Template

The template you use for your website probably will have other positions defined.

If you want to check where they are, you might look at the source code, but if there are nicely build for SEO, you need to look at the style sheet (stylesheet.css) as well…

But there is an easier way, already build in with Joomla which will visualize the placement just like above.
Here is how:

– First Login to your administrator panel
– Got menu item "Site" next to the "Home" item.
– Now select "Preview with in-line positions" …..

You can see every positions and its declaration from top to bottom, from banner to debug and everything in between.

Now you can go ahead en publish and unpublish the modules you want in the positions you want.

P.s. don't forget to click on a module it you are looking at the site modules, most of the time there are parameters for the configuration of the module that open on click :-)
